Relationship between one‐carbon metabolism and fetal growth in twins: A cohort study

Abstract We investigated the associations of one‐carbon metabolism (OCM)‐related metabolites, including choline, betaine, dimethylglycine (DMG), and methionine with fetal growth twins. This hospital‐based cohort study included dichorionic twin gestations. Blood samples were collected at a median 14.7 weeks gestation. plasma metabolite levels measured using high‐performance liquid chromatography–triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. Generalized estimating equations mixed effects models used to explore between growth. In total, 115 women diamniotic pregnancies included. The maternal DMG level was negatively correlated birth weight ( β = −43.5, 95% confidence interval [CI] −74.1 −12.8, p < .05) head circumference −0.23, CI −0.39 −0.07, .05). Other metabolites not significantly associated weight, body length, (HC), or chest circumference. Analysis relationships biological parameters on ultrasound revealed that choline abdominal (AC) −0.12, 0.24 −0.004, .05); AC −0.17, 0.28–0.07, .05), femur length 0.02, 0.04–0.003, estimated 26.4, −41.6 −11.2, but HC. HC −0.08, −0.14 −0.02, OCM‐related during second trimester intrauterine weight. However, further studies larger are needed.
